Tanzania officially the United Republic of Tanzania is a country in East Africa within the African Great Lakes region. It borders Uganda to the north, Kenya to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the east, Mozambique and Malawi to the south, Zambia to the southwest, and Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. To the south lies Lake Malawi while to the north and west lie Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake, and Lake Tanganyika, the continent’s deepest lake, known for its unique species of fish. Tanzania is the 13th largest country in Africa and the 31st largest in the world, ranked between the larger Egypt and smaller Nigeria. Tanzania is located on the eastern coast of Africa and has an Indian Ocean coastline approximately 1,424 kilometers (885 mi) long. It also incorporates several offshore islands, including Unguja (Zanzibar), Pemba and Mafia. Tanzania is mountainous and densely forested in the northeast, where Mount Kilimanjaro is located. Tanzania contains around 20% of the species of Africa’s enormous warm-blooded animal species, found over its 21 National parks, reserves and 3 marine parks. More than 100 languages are spoken in Tanzania, making it the most linguistically diverse country in East Africa.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the world’s largest preserved ancient caldera and named after Ngorongoro Crater a large volcanic caldera within the area. This caldera supports around 20,000 large animals, including the world’s densest population of lions and spotted hyenas, several massive old tuskers, and some of East Africa’s last black rhinos.

Olduvai Gorge

Ancient skulls and bone fragments were discovered at this significant archeological site and provides valuable information about the earliest human populations. Decades of erosion have uncovered fossils and ancient human remains at the archeological site of Olduvai Gorge. Here tools and hunting equipment dating between 1-5 million years ago were also discovered. The iconic footprints of a man, woman and a kid at Laetoli close to Olduvai Gorge was another thrilling discovery.

Mount Kilimanjaro

This is unquestionably the highest peak in Africa and the second tallest in the whole world. The mountain peak or summit is very attractive with its snow crest and everyone succeeding to reach the top is awarded with a certificate. A World Heritage Site Kilimanjaro was created over a million years ago by volcanic action in the Rift Valley. Uhuru peak one of the Seven summits of the globe, is the highest peak of this majestic mountain.

Historical sites and museum

Bagamoyo city hosts places like museums and historical sites like the old fort, Old German, the slave market Caravan Serai, Kaole ruins where the first mosque and the lover’s graves are found. There is also a magic well which is believed that once you take shower with the water all evil spirits are casted out. Zanzibar Island is another place where historical remains of the past like the main slave market and stone town are located.

Mount Meru

This is Tanzania’s second highest mountain and is one of Africa’s most stunning volcanoes. A thin slope that leads to the peak offers breathtaking views of the volcanic cone that is located in the crater at a height of several thousand feet below.

National Parks

Tanzania has got number of national parks where you are able to spot different wildlife during your visit to this country. Serengenti National Park is the most beautiful area in all of Africa, covered by vast savannah grasslands and characteristic flattop acacia and balsam trees. It is one of the most well-known parks in Africa also hosting the big five i.e lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos and rhinos. The best time to enjoy wildlife in this park is June through September however the park can be accessed any time of the year. Lake Manyara National Park famous for the tree climbing lions as well as Lake Manyara itself with abundance of different bird species like the flamingos, etc. In addition, the bundance of elephants, tree climbing lions and hippos seen at a much closer range than in other parks are its main attraction. Tarangire National Park home to the highest population of elephants in the country and tree top walk away activity that can not be missed out during your safari. Arusha National Park is the smaller park in Tanzania however, it has a variety of habitants. Ruaha National Park is Tanzania’s largest park with a high population of elephants and other animals like buffalos etc.

 

Pemba Island

The Island has some of the best scuba diving in the Indian Ocean with unmatched clarity and its boarded by numerous desert islands. The underwater paradise is home to sea fans, coral gardens as well as colorful sponges. Besides, the Island has become well-liked among mountain bikers who are lured to the 1,000-meter peaks and are rugged with deep valleys.
