This 3 Days Lake Bunyonyi Adventure takes you to Southwestern Uganda to Lake Bunyonyi also known as a “Place of many little birds” taking its name from the abundant birdlife that call it home. Additionally, it is the second deepest Lake in Africa after Tanganyika in Tanzania. It is also famous for its lush green terraced hills, legendary Islands and its impressive population of over 200 bird species. Furthermore, the Lake is one of the few lakes in Uganda that are Bilharzia free, making its water safe for swimming. As a matter of fact, it is also free of dangerous wildlife like hippos and crocodiles.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Depart Kampala-Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast, you will be picked and thereafter set off for the lifetime experience in Lake Bunyonyi. Along the way you will have a stopover at the equator for refreshments, take photos as well as buy some souvenirs. Later you will proceed to Mbarara town where you will have lunch then continue with your journey to Lake Bunyonyi, arriving late evening.

Day 2: Community Visit-Canoeing

After an early breakfast, you will visit the Batwa communities to interact with them thereby getting to know more about their daily life. Later after lunch, you will go for a canoe ride where you will be able to visit some of the Islands on this Lake. Generally, the Lake has got 29 Islands some of which were named according to the different bird species found on them. However, others were named after their historical backgrounds for example the Punishment Island. It is the smallest and was used by the Bakiga people to drop their girls who got pregnant before marriage as a way of punishing. While visiting these Islands, you will also learn a lot about the people that inhabit them. Later you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Travel back to Kampala

After an early morning breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and start your journey back to Kampala. On your way you will have views of the stunning landscapes and mountains. Along the way, you will have a stopover in Mbarara town for lunch then proceed with your journey arriving late evening.
